    Build Quality & Materials

The new Move feels exceptionally solid and well-made on the outside, and inside we find the proven, high-grade Profitec craftsmanship. We really like the updated aesthetic of our test model, finished in powder-coated black stainless steel with American walnut accents. A welcome improvement: the drip tray is now powder-coated in matching black, which was not the case on its predecessor.

The joystick levers for steam and hot water are stylish and highly functional. The new OLED display and control buttons are cleanly integrated into the front panel. Together with the new timed-volume buttons, they form a cohesive control surface. In terms of design and tactile quality, the Move is a sleek and modern machine. The updated pressure gauge complements this look nicely.

Excellent Edge Finishing: Smooth, rounded edges throughout, particularly on the drip tray (only the cutout handles feel slightly sharp).
Durable Surface Finish: The subtly textured matte powder coating prevents visible fingerprints and offers a pleasant grip.
Robust Sheet Metal Thickness: No rattling panels; the chassis feels very solid and sturdy.

The joystick levers were slightly stiff on our fresh test unit, but they should loosen up with regular use. The only minor flaw: the upper rear corners of the bent stainless steel body do not sit 100% flush—though that is nitpicking at a high level.

    Warm-Up Time & Thermal Stability

The Profitec Move truly shines once it is fully up to temperature. In both our KM protocol and the WBC protocol, we measured outstanding temperature consistency during the shot as well as shot-to-shot. Specifically under the WBC protocol after a 1-hour idle time, standard deviation was remarkably low at just 0.82 °C. Across all 14 shots, the maximum temperature spread between the absolute highest and lowest data point was 4.52 °C. At a target setting of 93 °C, average shot temperature across all pulls landed at 92.11 °C.

    Warm-Up Time in Detail

We disagree with manufacturer Profitec regarding the actual warm-up time. Profitec advertises a 10-minute warm-up phase. At that point, however, the group is far from reaching target brewing temperature. Even after 17 minutes of preheating, our Scace measuring device did not hit 92 °C on the very first shot. Since a Scace portafilter carries slightly more thermal mass than the new stock portafilter with its silicone spout, we consider 17 minutes to be the realistic warm-up time.

KM Protocol Profitec Move 10 min with Steam
KM protocol of the Profitec Move after 10 minutes with steam boiler active: Target brew temperature is not yet reached.

Note that—just like its predecessor, the Profitec Pro 300—the Move takes longer to heat up when the steam boiler is switched off: We measured 21 minutes to achieve proper brew temperature without the steam boiler active.

    Understanding Brew Temperature Performance

The relatively sluggish warm-up behavior of the Profitec Move surprised us. With the ECM Synchronika II and the Profitec Go, the manufacturer demonstrated twice how effectively a Fast-Heat-Up routine can speed up a machine. On the Profitec Move, that system does not achieve the same speed in our testing series.

We are nowhere near a true 10-minute warm-up time and struggle to align with the manufacturer's claim—at least if we expect a target brew temperature above 92 °C on shot number one. In this light, the new portafilter with its silicone spout feels like a workaround: While it can assist a machine designed for fast heating (silicone absorbs little heat and doesn't siphon thermal energy from the espresso), it doesn't solve the slower heating rate of the brew water itself.

    Profitec’s Statement on Warm-Up Time

Profitec responded to our temperature measurements in a official blog post. From our perspective, Profitec's own data confirms our core findings—though differing definitions exist as to what constitutes "ready to brew":

Profitec's Definition: States a warm-up time of approximately 9 minutes. At that mark, the first shot reaches roughly 88 °C. With additional blank flushes, shot #3 approaches 92 °C. Profitec considers a 4 °C offset from target temperature on shot #1 acceptable as "sufficiently preheated."

Kaffeemacher Definition: We demand a real-world scenario. Following a short warming flush, shot #1 must reach at least 92 °C (for a 93 °C target). We find a brief purge reasonable, but expect the first real espresso shot to land directly on target temperature.

    Power Consumption & Energy Efficiency

    Profitec Move Power Measurement Chart
Power consumption timeline of the Profitec Move across our testing protocol.

In our review video, we mentioned a single-shot energy consumption of roughly 0.095 kWh. To keep metrics comparable across reviews, we reference our standardized benchmark test of 5 double shots: The Move recorded 0.122 kWh, which is an efficient and very respectable figure.

    Volumetrics: Time-Based

The Move features time-based volumetric dosing with two programmable buttons. The machine dispenses water for a preset duration. Depending on puck resistance, more or less liquid yield ends up in your cup:

With a fine grind size, less coffee flows into the cup.
With a coarse grind size, water gushes through much faster.

While timed dosing is better than no auto-stop at all, it cannot replace true volumetric flowmeter dosing for gram-precise extraction. In practice, we use this feature as a safety cut-off (e.g., programmed to 35–40 seconds) in case you get distracted during brewing.

    Volumetrics Rating: 3 / 10 Points

    Noise Level & Operation

The Profitec Move operates pleasantly quiet. 57 decibels is a remarkably quiet result among home espresso machines, made possible by a well-decoupled vibration pump.

    Smart Features via OLED Display

The display unlocks useful daily settings and shortcuts:

    Timer & Auto-On/Off: Programmable schedule.
Pre-Infusion: Adjustable pre-wetting duration and dwell time. Combined with the gentle pressure ramp of the vibration pump, pre-infusion treats the coffee puck gently.
Last-Shot Feature: If the water tank runs low mid-shot, the machine finishes the current extraction gracefully before alerting you.
Boiler Control: The steam boiler can be turned off independently or adjusted in temperature.

We rate usability at a solid 7 out of 10 points (Noise Level separately: 4 out of 5 points).

    Accessories & Features

The Profitec Move arrives with a generous accessory bundle:

Filter Baskets: Single basket, 17/18g double basket (slightly tapered), cylindrical 21g triple basket (bottomless portafilter use only), plus a blind filter disc.
Tamper: Solid Profitec metal tamper with a flat base that fits flush against basket walls.
3-in-1 Portafilter: Innovative low-mass portafilter. Using push-fit silicone inserts, it converts quickly between single-spout, double-spout, and bottomless modes. The soft silicone also protects countertops when tamping.

Accessories & Features: 3.5 out of 5 Points

    Milk Steaming & Steam Power

The Profitec Move is no commercial steam monster, but it steams reliable microfoam. In our benchmark test, it took 50 seconds to heat milk to target temperature (without active stretching). Steam pressure is sufficient to create a proper vortex rolling phase. The relaxed steaming speed benefits beginners who might feel overwhelmed by intense steam power.

The cool-touch steam wand prevents milk from baking onto the wand. Keep in mind: turning off the steam boiler increases group warm-up time by roughly 2 to 4 minutes (totaling 21 minutes).

Pouring latte art microfoam is definitely doable. Due to the slower heating rate, we rate steam performance at 5 out of 10 points.

    Verdict: Profitec Move

    Kaffeemacher Verdict

The Profitec Move is a successful visual and functional redesign of the proven Profitec Pro 300. Aesthetics, display integration, menu navigation, and quiet operation excel across the board. Once fully preheated, the machine delivers impressively stable brew temperatures and delicious espresso.

We were disappointed primarily by the warm-up marketing claim: Rather than the advertised 9 minutes, the machine requires roughly 17 minutes in real-world conditions before shot #1 reliably exceeds 92 °C. If that warm-up time doesn't bother you and you are looking for a reliable, well-built dual-boiler machine, the Move will serve you well for years to come.
